Due to our trajectory many mothers are sent to us from health centres, the ICBF (Colombian Institute  of Family Welfare), hospitals and other official entities.

What can I expect in coming to La Casa de la Madre y el Niño?

You can expect an interview with the social worker to evaluate your participation in the program which can begin at any stage throughout your pregnancy.

La Casa de la Madre y el Niño takes pregnant women in with love, dedication, understanding and respect, they will find the warmth and peace of a home  and a family which a mother deserves throughout her pregnancy.

What services does “La Casa de la Madre y el Niño” offer to an expectant mother?

We offer the following services free of charge :

ACCOMMODATION : Throughout pregnancy up until the moment the mother leaves the institution. Pregnant women may also stay in the institution with up to two children up to the age of six.  The institution is provided with all the necessary facilities so that the mothers may live comfortably.

DIET: We have a team dedicated to ensuring that the expectant mothers get the necessary nutrition. Among other things  we have : a nutritionist, the required général services and specialized care.

GUIDANCE : psychologically based on moral values and communal living

HEALTH : Pre and post-natal medical assistance, lab tests and ultrasound scans, a psychologist, psychoprophylactic courses and nutritional plans. The births take place in different hospitals in the area.

TRAINING : in the form of workshops in cooking, beauty, dress-making and handicrafts. Grounds on which they can hope to develop abilities and skills which will allow them to set goals for the future or to find a job and thus become independent.

An expectant mother can be welcomed in one of the following categories in the Maternal Wing depending on their circumstance:

• Boarding: The mother may live in the institution with two children under the age of 6, who will leave with her at the end of the program

• Semi-boarding: The mother may sleep in the institution and during the day will engage in some external activity

• External: The mother may regularly attend for medical check-ups and other services and live in her own residence.

Once the child is born, can i still see the baby?

The mother has a legal right to be in contact with her baby for theirty working-days
