In La Casa we are convinced that the development of our society depends greatly on the amount of social commitment we all have; thus we believe that the aid we offer the children is also aid for the whole country.  La Casa tries to offer children the best opportunities and a place of tranquility, because these children have suffered abuse, negligence and lack of care

These children tend to have very poor levels of health and personal development for which they need major care and attention. Since we are an entity dedicated to the well-being and to the creating of homes, we believe that we have to constantly monitor and reinforce the health check-ups that our children receive to allow them to overcome the obstacles that they encounter during their physical and socio-affective development. In La Casa all the necessary tools are given to them in order that they may become healthy and honest people.

La Casa de la Madre y el Niño is authorized by the ICBF (Colombian Institute of Family Welfare) and follows all the rules established by this government.  La Casa receives funds from this institution, which make up 30% of the total basic costs of each child (this includes health, education and lodging).  Nevertheless, while La Casa looks to provide the children with the best care and opportunities so that they may properly develop, this costs money and the cost increases with every child.

La Casa has many projects, infrastructure works, and programs which we would not have been able to carry out without the necessary resources. Here there is a list of a few projects, which one can be linked to or can collaborate with:

THE BEST EDUCATION FOR OUR CHILDREN

Objective:

Guarantee our children the right to education that they deserve. Supporting them in their basic education by following their academic process in the schools they attend, offering reinforcement in their academic extra-curricular activities, this is encouraged by the professionals hired by La Casa.

In order to carry out this support program we need:

Pre-school and primary school teachers

• Occupational therapists who take time out with the children who are progressing slowly so that they can catch up and reach the level which they should be at their age.
• A speech therapist that helps children who show problems with hearing and in their process of understanding what they hear.
• A psychologist who helps children with psycho-affective problems so that they may obtain a healthy development that suits their age-group.

THE HEALTH OF OUR CHILDREN IS OUR PRIORITY

Protection of health:

Aim: The main aim of this project is to improve the level of general development of the children who live in La Casa through specialized attention to their health, carried out by professionals.

This project particularly requires the following human resources:

• 3 nurses who look after the children 24 hours a day over three shifts
• 3 nurses aids help the nurses in caring for and attending to the children
• A psychologist who looks after the children who are not progressing in their socio-affective development
• 1 nutritionist who makes sure the children are eating correctly
• 2 aids for when the children are hospitalized
• 2 aids for doctor’s appointments.
