About Us La Casa de La Madre y el Niño is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to providing vulnerable children and pregnant women with a home where they can find wellbeing, specialised care, guidance and comprehensive training. Founded in November 1942, La Casa was granted official legal license to operate No. 107, and this was ratified by the Department of Justice by Resolution 1759 on 5th August 2002. In 1973 the recently established ICBF (Colombian Institute of Family Welfare) granted La Casa with a founding permit No. 001.
ORGANISATION La Casa de la Madre y el Niño is run by a board of directors made up of 8 principal members and 5 substitutes, who set goals that must be be accomplished , it is likewise provided with advice offered by the right people on the handling of the institution.
Presently, the director of La Casa is Bárbara Escobar López. Barbara, together with all the other people who are part of the institution continues to run the institution atempting to realise the same goal that it has had since 1942.
HUMAN RESOURCES In order to take care of the children and expectant mother in a comprehensive manner , La Casa de La Madre y el Niño relies on a team of highly qualified professionals made up of:
PHYSICAL RESOURCES The facility was designed by Cuellar Serrano Gómez especially for the children and pregnant women. It has dormitories for every age , bathrooms, dining halls, kitchens, a sterilized room for the preparation of baby bottles, laundry room, day nursery, a room for early stimulation, toy library, gardens and a park to play in, chapel, designated wing for expectant mothers, doctor’s office, infirmaries and quarantine rooms, visiting rooms, classrooms, rooms for art and computer classes and administrative offices.
FINANCIAL RESOURCES All our services here at La Casa are free of charge. The funds used for its running come from contributions made by state institutions, donations, contributions received through volunteer work and primarily from the support of our generous benefactors.
State contributions are a result of our connections with the ICBF (Colombian Institute of Family Welfare) whose donations make up 48% of the annual budget. The remaining 52% is thanks to the generosity of our donators and the work carried out by our volunteers with their various money-raising projects.
OUR CAPACITY
La Casa can house up to 65 children, from newborns up to eight year olds.
EXPECTANT MOTHERS
We can lodge up to 20 expectant mothers. Women may also enroll in the external program, enjoying all the services La Casa provides without necessarily being lodged by us.
