What is the required age to be able to adopt?

To be over 25 and be at least 15 years older than the child.

How long does the adoption procedure last?

It can last from one to three years.

Can we choose the sex of the child?

Yes. With this requirement the adoption can last a little longer.

Can we choose the age of the child?

Yes, as long as the age of the parents and the difference of age between them and the child correspond to the range established by Colombian legislation.

Does the adoption process have any cost?

In La Casa de la Madre y el Niño there is no cost. It is completely free. The only charges the adoptive parents have to assume are the fees paid to the attorney.

Can we know the health condition of the children?

Yes. La Casa de la Madre y el Niño provides a detailed report of the child with a physical and mental evaluation.  Additionally parents should take the child to a pediatrician of their choice to have him (her) examined and should give a copy of the report to La Casa.

How long do the future parents have to stay in Colombia?

Both parents have to come to receive the child and at least one of them has to stay in Colombia from four to six weeks. This time depends on how long the legal process takes.

What happens when you call to inform that the child will be given to the couple and they are not in the city?

While there is an adoption process, it is important to inform the Casa de la Madre y el Niño about any trip and the dates so that we may coordinate our activities.

Can you send me photographs of my baby?

We do not send photographs.

How much time do we have to accept the child once we receive notice of his(her) arrival?

You have 48 hours to accept. After this time, the baby will be offered to another family.

In La Casa de la Madre y el Niño all children are Colombian.

How do we know our child is ready?

You will receive a call from La Casa.
